In an American election focused on a lousy economy and high unemployment, conventional wisdom holds that foreign policy is one of Barack Obama's few strong suits. But the president is strikingly vulnerable in this area. The Republican who leads the GOP ticket can attack him on what Obama mistakenly thinks is his major strength by translating the center-right critique of his foreign policy into campaign themes and action. Here's how to beat him.
First, the Republican nominee should adopt a confident, nationalist tone emphasizing American exceptionalism, expressing pride in the United States as a force for good in the world, and advocating for an America that is once again respected (and, in some quarters, feared) as the preeminent global power. Obama acts as if he sees the United States as a flawed giant, a mistake that voters already perceive. After all, this is the president who said, "I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism." Voters also sense he is content to manage America's decline to a status where the United States is just one country among many. As he put it, his is "a U.S. leadership that recognizes our limits."
The Republican nominee should use the president's own words and actions to portray him as naive and weak on foreign affairs. Obama's failed promises, missed opportunities, and erratic shifts suggest he is out of touch and in over his head. For example, before he was elected, he promised to meet with the leaders of Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, and Venezuela "without precondition." Nothing came of that except a serious blow to the image of the United States as a reliable ally. During the 2008 campaign, he also argued that Iran was a "tiny" country that didn't "pose a serious threat." How foolish that now seems.

Karl Rove? Wasn't he in the Bush administration? We're supposed to listen to him on foreign policy now? Really?

Yeah, he was the one George Bush referred affectionately to as "Turdblossom".

We're supposed to listen to him on foreign policy now? Really?
I believe he was just outlining a strategy to beat Obama in an election, not actually suggesting a foreign policy.
And when it comes to Republican strategy, as a liberal, I pay very close attention to what Rove says about how Republicans can win elections. His track record is as impressive as his bag of dirty tricks is. He may be a scumbag, but he's not a "nobody".
- 44 votes
No, he is just further evidence that they have NOTHING except slick marketing and an unlimited bankroll (thanks to Citizens United). Do what I do...turn the damn talking heads off, read a little and look beyond the sound bites.
- 35 votes
So by Karl's advice. Lie your a$$ off and hope not too many people are onto the GOP's playbook of treachery! Just so Karl and everybody else knows. Many of the reasons why Republicans don't have a snowball's chance in hell to beat Obama is much of Karl's own fault and the way he conducted himself in aiding the neocons at trashing the middle class and our country during 2.0 W's administration.

Karl Rove? Wasn't he in the Bush administration?
Yes. And he is largely responsible for the greasy stain they left behind.

I could call Karl Rove a "bottom dwelling scum sucker" but that would be a put down on Catfish. And George W Bush nick named him "turdblossom." That's in reference to wet cow pies upon smack down on the cattle yard making nice geometric patterns. Karl is definitely where the BS hits the fan.
The Koch brothers will probably hire him for the general election. We will know when the right wing propaganda gets especially slobbier than usual.
- 17 votes
Yup, so long as Rove remains a "go-to-guy" for Republican political strategy, we'd be wise to keep our eye on him.
Everyone here, including myself hates the guy...and the reason we hate him so much is because he was so effective in doing that which we hate.If he was a blundering dolt, I doubt any of us would even know his name.

borncorn--this article by the architect Karl Rove has little to do with foreign policy and EVERYTHING to do as it is so aptly titled with how to beat Obama. Rove is very good at winning Presidential elections. Excellent advice herein from Rove/Gillespie. The CW is that obama is strong on foreign policy; this article explains exactly why the CW as supported by obama friends in the MSM is incorrect.
- 9 votes
It's imperative to listen to Rove if you want to stay ahead of their tactics. One of the more effective strategies is to take what is perceived to be a positive and turn it into a negative (for their opponent). The flip side of that would be to take his candidates negatives and put a positive spin on them. And then give Fox the talking points so they can play them over and over and over until the maroons believe it.
- 13 votes
So the argument is to be that Obama is weak?
Osama Bin Laden
Muammar Gaddafi
If that's the argument, it's time to admit defeat.

Lisa He wants to run on the economy...when Obama got us out of the worst economic calamity that his underling left behind! 9% loss of GDP 12 trillion in American wealth vanished, 50 trillion globally, 8 million jobs lost because of it...Bush inherits unemployment @ 4.2% and leaves with it @ 7.8% ,a 3.6% loss. After inheriting surpluses, his last deficit was 1.4 trillion dollars. Instead of Hoover level unemployment we have positive GDP Growth and 3 million jobs created...not only that, the GOOPer economic plan ...is Bushs' on steriods...
Roves strategy is to be the pyromaniac blaming the fireman that he isn't putti g out HIS fire fast enough for the pyro's liking...good luck with that...
- 24 votes
Why exactly again is Obama weak on foreign policy? Oh, I know. Because he hasn't invaded Iran even though they are apparently no threat. Or, perhaps because we are not sabre rattling with North Korea. Yes, let's invade Venezuela. After all, they pose a serious trhreat to the security of the US.
Rove, and all right wing fanatics, believe that respect can only be found at teh end of the barrel of a gun. Wait a minute. Rove sounds like a 60's revolutionary. No, I am getting him confused with Bill Ayers.

I thought he was going to advise the GOP candidates to stop promising the theft of American rights. Not one of these right wing fascists has a clue that thinking people aren't on board with the government controlling women's reproductive decisions, lifting environmental protections for our air and water (so industry can make an extra buck on top of their billions at the expense of our health), eliminating public schools, stealing the hard earned right of workers to fairness in the workplace, and eliminating separation of church and state, the very thing that gives us our freedom of religion, and fairness in court. These goofballs keep on singing to their choir, a bunch of FOX addicted non-readers, people so vicious that they would hand over their own GOD given rights in exchange for the chance to punish their neighbors by stealing theirs. People left over from Karl Rove's annexation of formerly Christian churches into extreme right wing political action groups. What's the matter Karl, has your karma turned to bite your own sorry ass?

All that sounds like being rational.
Accepting that America will have a place in the world, but there will be other nations as well.
Iran doesn't pose a serious threat directly to the US. If they even try to do anything they are saying, a) they will have every other arab nation turn their back on them, b) both China and India will turn their back on them c) it will likely lead to large social unrest (which was already seen in their last election, just imagine if they effectively embargoed themselves cutting off almost all their income)

Karl Rove is dreaming. If a Republican wins the nomination, we will be anything but respected, or a preminent global power.
With the ideas of the GOP -denial of global warming, the desire to start another war in Iran, destroying the environment in pursuit of oil, and removing the barriers of the EPA for the Corporate vampires, we will be a third world, that is all.

Yes, Karl. Lets see how for the GOP candidate gets espousing the view that we need to be back in Iraq, that we need to stay in Afghanistan longer and that we need another war in Iran. The fact is that the United States is viewed more favorably around the world after three years of Obama than we were after eight years of the Bush administration. It would seem that Karl's advice did not work so well for President Bush.

What Karl is advocating was formally referred to as "The Big Lie" which meant telling the same lie over and over and over again until the "lie" in itself became the story and the truth was forgotten. And who was it that used this method to great effect and in fact for whose use of it it was labeled "The Big Lie" none other than that mastermind of hate and facism....yep old Adolf Hitler himself...look it up its in any history book covering that period. So there is nothing new about it, Karl just took Hitler's well used methods and converted it to GOP Policy.....what's wrong with that??????

I guess Rove never asked Bin Laden or Gaddafi how "unsucessful" President Obama's foreign policy is...

The article, if indeed written by Karl Rove, does, IMHO, clearly show how a clearly confused writer can write a recipe for disaster. He sets forth four 'actions' which the Republican candidate must take during the campaign. Of course, the four 'actions' are nebulous and vague. Then, he follows these with negative statements about President Obama with, as is typical of GOP rhetoric, not a shred of fact. And, finally, he makes a reasonable statement:
Absent a major international crisis, this election will be largely about jobs, spending, health care, and energy. Voters do, however, want a president who leads on the world stage and a commander in chief who projects strength, not weakness.
It would be disastrous for Rove, or any other Republican (supposed) leader to point it out, but, IMHO, President Obama has clearly projected strength both of this country and in himself, for the past three years !!
His approach to the handling of Seal Team 6 killing Osama bin Laden is a clear example.

Rover is struggling to regain Relevancy, It's Grover that has GOOPers by the short n curlys, and he's all but written off the Presidential race;
They have reconciled themselves to a Romney candidacy because they see Romney as essentially a weak and passive president who will concede leadership to congressional conservatives:
All we have to do is replace Obama. ... We are not auditioning for fearless leader. We don't need a president to tell us in what direction to go. We know what direction to go. We want the Ryan budget. ... We just need a president to sign this stuff. We don't need someone to think it up or design it. The leadership now for the modern conservative movement for the next 20 years will be coming out of the House and the Senate.
The requirement for president?
Pick a Republican with enough working digits to handle a pen to become president of the United States. This is a change for Republicans: the House and Senate doing the work with the president signing bills. His job is to be captain of the team, to sign the legislation that has already been prepared.
This is not a very complimentary assessment of Romney's leadership. It's also not a very realistic political program: congressional Republicans have a disapproval rating of about 75%. If Americans get the idea that a vote for Romney is a vote for the Ryan plan, Romney is more or less doomed.
To date, sad to say, Romney has worked hard to confirm this image of weakness.
http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/02/13/grover-norquist-speech-cpac.html
They will be trying to hold on desperately to the house but will lose it, but they might get the Senate because the numbers favor them till 2016, and making huge pushes in state legislatures, We have to get the house and take back state legislatures...and the mid term will be just as important as the Presidents re-election

Never, ever underestimate this pudgy soft spoken weasel. He is a master of deceit. I say this knowing that Rove would privately consider that title as the greatest of compliments. Once powerful Dick Cheney is a sloppy amateur in comparison.
Karl Rove chose the GOP as the vehicle to build his fortune and power. He knew that his deceptive and sometimes illegal bag of dirty tricks would be welcomed as long as he kept his own fingers relatively clean. His past activities, since he was 19, raised many eyebrows of suspicion. He is a very intelligent man with few morals. Those very strong suspicions coupled with constant denial and subsequent lack of evidence made him the most sought after political consultant to any GOP candidate. This is all documented. The kid that robbed the cookie jar most often carefully swept the crumbs to another's door.
We can never deny the craftiness of the man behind the curtains of GOP gains since he first introduced his play-book. Repeat the same lie over and over again until the least intelligent among us believe it to be the gospel truth.Such efforts will lead them to vote against their own best interests. Convince them that Bush( who inherited the greatest economy in American history) was not the one that reduced it to the second worst economy since the Great Depression.
Foreign born Rupert Murdoch advanced Rove's agenda beyond his wildest dreams. I believe that insane Murdoch's agenda is world dominion. Karl Rove doesn't give a damn as long he is allowed to feed the frenzy and be assured a prominent role in the new world order. Both men could care less about efficient government or mankind. Both men fully expect to reduce society to a people that will worship them and grovel at their feet for mere crumbs.
Men much greater than them now lie in shallow unmarked graves that are never visited despite their once prominent names. Those names may slip through our lips now and then, but only in disgust and loathing. That is the testimony that Rove and Murdoch so richly deserve. Not as masters of men, but the scum of the Earth.

Anyone remember the primaries in South Carolina in the 2000 race? Bush vs a maverick McCain.
"What Bush did to McCain in the 2000 S. C. primary"
McCain Slurs Included Illegitimate Children, Homosexuality And A Drug-Addict Wife.
Among the rumors circulated against McCain in 2000 in South Carolina was that his adopted Bangladeshi daughter was actually black, that McCain was both gay and cheated on his wife, and that his wife Cindy was a drug addict.”Bush Campaign Used Code Words to Question McCain’s Temper.
“A smear campaign of the ugliest sort is now coursing through the contest for the presidency in 2000. Using the code word "temper," a group of Senate Republicans, and at least some outriders of the George W. Bush campaign, are spreading the word that John McCain is unstable. The subtext, also suggested in this whispering campaign, is that he returned from 5 1/2 years as a POW in North Vietnam with a loose screw. And it is bruited about that he shouldn't be entrusted with nuclear weapons.”
And all of that was against a fellow Republican.
Karl Rove has needed to be "outed" for the slob liar he is for many years.

I just hope it's not so brutal that it scares people away from running for office...but that's what I expect, partly.
I definitely think it'll be a loooong time before we see another serious black candidate for the presidency. For sure, they couldn't GIVE the presidency to this black man for any amount of money.
It's a mistake to ignore Karl Rove. He is exactly the sort of smart, experienced and totally ruthless political operative that wins elections in the current political environment---which is less civilized that a close-range rock fight.

It took two right-wing bottom feeders, Karl Rove and Ed Gillespie, to return to the same plan of attack used over and over by the GOP. It’s what Rove, Gillespie and other conservative operatives learned from the late Harvey Leroy (Lee) Atwater. Atwater has been dead more than 20 years, but his bible remains the go-to book of sleazy, dirty tricks.

All in all, Leroy “Lee” Atwater was a good ol’ boy from South Carolina who hated those who defeated the South in the Civil War.

No, first find a candidate who isn't blander and whiter and less-appetizing than un-buttered grits (Mittens), one who isn't just plain out-there bat**** senile crazy (Paul), one who isn't the most morally-corrupt hypocrit to come along in decades (Newt-er), one who can focus on some real issues and keep his *** out of America's bedrooms and doctor's offices and sex lives (Mr Frothy Santorum), and you might have a chance.
But, wait . . . you goobers already ****-canned Huntsman, and anyone else of more moderate and playable posture (assuming one is still out there) is staying out of this imbroglio, at least till the convention threatens to self-destruct. It ain't looking good, Karl.
Do you have time to start over?

emphasizing American exceptionalism
America that is once again respected (and, in some quarters, feared)
The two most important things in the whole article. Emphasize ignorance and stupidity and generate fear that we will use the bombs to take over the world. That pretty much wraps up the GOP for the last 13 years doesn't it?

But, wait . . . you goobers already ****-canned Huntsman
If the RWNJs hadn't commandeered the GOP and pointed it straight at an iceberg, Huntsman could certainly have been the nominee. And yes, he would have been a credible candidate. More than that, given the weakness of the economy and the ease of tying that to a sitting president, I have to think that he'd get the attention of moderates in both parties. Could he have beaten Obama in November? Wouldn't have surprised me.
The right-wing crazies are sucking the credibility, and life, out of the GOP. Enjoy your Kool-Aid, Repubbies. You're paying for it.

You missed one big sticking point though Rove - all of your Republican candidates are catering to the 1%ers... none of them think that all Americans are exceptional...

Only in their world is 1% of the vote greater than 99% of the vote. Maybe they think money will buy them a win. NOT THIS TIME!!! We're on to them and their trick$ and they'll go down in humiliating defeat.

American exceptionalism, expressing pride in the United States as a force for good in the world,
Force for good is code for New World Order.
I am now convinced that Rove, stirred up the trouble in Afghanistan over the holy book burning.

I could not understand the reasoning behind burning the Koran in Afghanistan. That is something they believe in and not to be taken lightly. To burn them publicly made no sense whatsoever and who in their right mind in the military would do such a stupid thing?

How to Beat Obama - Plan A:
- Present a credible plan for growing the economy and increasing employment
- Present a credible plan for deficit reduction
- Present a credible plan for accomplishing foreign policy goals with minimum loss of American lives.
- Present a credible plan for decreasing our dependence on fossil fuels.
This is clearly well outside of the republican wheelhouse.
How to Beat Obama - Plan B:
- Continue to foster xenophobia, homophobia, racial and religious resentment, mysoginy and other wedge animosities
- Lie. Constantly
- Try to get all of the stupid people to the polls on November 6th.
- Suppress the votes of people most likely to vote for President Obama
Clearly, republicans are pursuing Plan B.

Geez......
We don't want the Republicans to know that we have a copy of their playbook. Put that away before they find out.

Before he was elected, he promised to meet with the leaders of Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, and Venezuela "without precondition." Nothing came of that except a serious blow to the image of the United States as a reliable ally. During the 2008 campaign, he also argued that Iran was a "tiny" country that didn't "pose a serious threat." How foolish that now seems.
At the same time, the Republican candidate should not hesitate to point out where Obama has left his Republican predecessor's policies largely intact. He will be uncomfortable if the nominee congratulates him for applying President George W. Bush's surge strategy to Afghanistan, carrying through on the expanded use of drones, reversing course on the handling of terrorist detainees, and renewing the Patriot Act after previously condemning it as a "shoddy and dangerous law."
All true

Karl Rove is a little Gremlin and he was one of the ones who participated in the "outing" of CIA agent Valerie Pflaum. Scooter Libby took the fall for him and Cheney and became their scapegoat. All anyone has to do is keep pounding home that he was part of the Bush regime that they never want to talk about or refer to. I thought it so strange that none of the candidates McCain, or these current circus clowns never mentioned him. Now you have a man who was front and center with W and participated in every stinking debacle that the administration did and you all want to listen to "how to beat Obama?" Then why didn't this work last go around? Because this bunch lie like rugs and do not know which end is up. You go right on take his advice and we will not only defeat you badly but give you a "shellacing."

Independent: US got a serious blow to our image because we didn't talk to N. Korea or Cuba or Iran. What planet do you live on. The only blows we suffer was when Bush was in office and told the world you are with us or against us.
Are saying that Iran is a threat to the US. Scare tactics like Bush when he said there could be a mushroom cloud over the US from Iraq. Check your facts and see if I am right.

#21 - Strongly disagree with your assessment that President Obama damaged our image. I do not recall any nation declaring this honor on the Bush administration. If you can produce proof of praises by any nation of the Bush administration, produce it...

Our image is how the world sees and works with us.
Seen as dangerous warmongers there is no hope for talks for peaceful resolutions. Both side line up like cowboy gunfighters. Someone pulls the trigger and someone dies. If we're talking about countries, it is the people not the gunfighters who pay.
Seen as reasonable, there can be talks to solve problems. One way causes deaths, the other saves lives. OBama is reasonable. I'll take that any day over a cowboy mentality.
All this advice from a man who should have been tried for war crimes in the Hague.
The Republican candidates are as follows 1.Vulture capitalist 2. The ANTICHRIST tricky Rickey 3. Poster child for lack of morals 4. radical Ron. Obama will win because of the lack of a viable candidate from the radical right. All they offered is a caste of clowns that even they don't like.

But by judging your previous post, it appears you don't have a problem with that....

You must be in coma. Finding lawyers who proclaim Bush and Cheney and their staffs and administration as guilty of breaking the law is as easy as it will be for Obama s successor and his or her staff to do the same with the Obama team. A mere three days into his term the new president ordered drone attacks inside Pakistan on suspected al-Qaeda terrorists. Twenty-two people were killed. Not all were believed to be terrorists. According to locals, women and at least three children were killed. In other words, this very green President of the United States, without a lick of military experience, just bombed a country (Pakistan) with which the U.S. is not at war. Nor did he request a declaration of war.
On top of which innocent women and children are now dead. If we are to run with the doctrine according to the left this, ladies and gentleman, is a "war crime."
- 4 votes
And no one died in the (fill in your favorite curse words) wars started by Bush/Cheny on the basis of LIES. They died from love taps? They didn't sanction torture that gathered NO intelligence that was actionable? OK. Sure. I really don't want to buy any bridges today, thank you.

IV, Another attempt at revising history. The problem with that is, that the facts don't bear out what you are saying. We didn't bomb Pakistan, we took out Bin Laden, which could have been done long ago, but Bush let him escape at Tora Bora. That's fact and unarguable. Now tell me what Navy Seals bombed Pakistan? Trying to twist, spin and change the facts, does not make it so. You are entitled to your opinion, but not your own set of facts. That is a truth that you GOPT need to learn, to have any credibility.
- 1 vote
You are kidding right? Really? Wow:
This campaign of military aggression has been carried out in open defiance of the protests of the Pakistani people and their political leaders. Innocent Pakistani civilians and political activists alike have been callously murdered.
The United States has undoubtedly carried out war crimes with these deliberate attacks against the civilian population. At the very least, it has committed acts of war. These attacks qualify as armed attacks in violation of Pakistan's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
It is interesting to note that these strikes have occurred just a few days into the new Obama administration. Obama's White House mouthpiece Robert Gibbs has echoed his predecessors by spouting out "no comment" in response to questions. These airstrikes confirm skeptics who argue that the new Obama regime will maintain U.S. imperialism's predatory foreign policy.
From Amnesty International concerning the above strikes:
The US authorities must give a detailed explanation of how these strikes are lawful and what is being done to monitor civilian casualties and ensure proper accountability, said Sam Zarifi Amnesty International's Asia-Pacific director.
What are the rules of engagement? What proper legal justification exists for these attacks? While the President's confirmation of the use of drones in Pakistan is a welcome first step towards transparency, these and other questions need to be answered. [...]
Past justifications offered by US officials have invoked legal theories based on a "global war" between the USA and al-Qa'ida, a concept not recognized by international humanitarian or human rights law.
"The US administration must use the occasion of Attorney General Holder's speech to disclose the relevant legal and factual documentation necessary for a meaningful assessment of the lawfulness of the deliberate killings it is carrying out - simply trying to find another way to say 'trust us, it's legal' will not be good enough," said Sam Zarifi.

So Obama's war is Bush's war. Neglecting of course that Bush sat with his thumb up his ass about bin Laden while Obama finished the job. Those SEALs killed bin Laden on his orders. Orders never given by Bush. Instead was Bush gave us was a war of choice which he and all his cronies lied us into with false evidence gained by violation of the Geneva Convention on Torture. It was all about one upping his daddy, nothing to do with 9/11. Saddam Hussein and bin Laden were ENEMIES.
Now, Independant. ANSWER THE GODDAMN QUSTION. What war crimes did Bill Clinton commit?

Bringing up Bush does not exonerate Obama.
I see you are vocabulary challenged. In Yugoslavia, Clinton targeted civilian infrastructure and civilian facilities – houses, hospitals, schools, trains, factories, power stations, and broadcasting facilities.
According to Yugoslav authorities, 60 percent of the targets were civilian, including 33 hospitals and 344 schools, as well as 144 major industrial plants and a large petro-chemical plant whose bombing caused a pollution catastrophe.
Not long after Clinton ran out of targets, the BBC reported that the use of depleted uranium in Serbia would cause 10,000 extra deaths from cancer.
Maybe they could share a cell? Obama might look good in orange.

And according to Saddam's Minister of "Information", coalition forces committed suicide in the streets of Baghdad rather than face the Republican Guard.

Yep...just like cell phones cause cancer and aluminum pop cans cause Alzheimer's. That leaves out everyone claiming they are allergic to WiFi.
Bringing up Bush does not exonerate Obama.
Nor does it make them somehow equally culpable. As I read another 'viner post, "Democrats look at you funny, Republicans anally rape you...yet in your mind they're somehow equally bad?"

Your point is what?
In the District Court of Belgrade on September 22, 2000, the President of the court, Veroljub Raketic, handed down guilty verdicts against government leaders of NATO countries for "war crimes". The defendants in the trial were: Tony Blair, Robin Cook, George Robertson, Bill Clinton, Madeleine Albright, William Cohen, Jacques Chirac, Hubert Vedrine, Alain Richard, Gerhard Schroeder, Joschka Fischer, Rudolf Scharping, Javier Solana and Wesley Clark - all of which were sentenced to 20 years in a Yugoslav prison. The Yugoslav government issued arrest warrants for all of them, charging that between March 24 and June 10, 1999, during the NATO attack on Yugoslavia, they carried out::
Crimes against humanity and breaches of international law;
Inciting to an aggressive war;
violation of Yugoslavia's territorial sovereignty
The attempted murder of Slobodan Milosevic, President of Yugoslavia;
War crimes against civilians
The use of weapons banned under international law.
On April 18th 2001, it was reported that the former U.S. president Bill Clinton was sent a verdict sentencing him in absentia to 20 years in prison for "crimes against civilians" committed during NATO's 1999 attack on Yugoslavia. According to news reports, Clinton, and his lawyers, also received a decision on the issuing of a warrant for his arrest.

So what's a little violation of the Geneva Convention on Torture, right?
Obama doesn't nearly match the criminality of Bush/Cheney.

Rove has lost his mojo...not that he ever really had any in the first place.
When Rove refers to "foreign policy" he's talking about how the policies he architected were 100% foreign to American values. The Bush foreign policy was as stated - "yer either wit us er yer agin us"...
How many trillions did Rove help waste in Afghanistan and Iraq? Only a fool would listen to one word Rove has to say!
We have seen Rove's "architectural handywork"...we don't want to see anymore thank you!

"In an American election focused on a lousy economy and high unemployment, conventional wisdom holds that foreign policy is one of Barack Obama's few strong suits"
That part...Rove cannot in any way demonstrate that people Democrats (including Obama) any more or less responsible for the lackluster economy than they do Republicans.
He's simply making the statement in order to shore up the rest of his pseudo-populist rant.
This is the entire problem with the Republican Election effort--it relies on voters following their precise and neatly organised script to work.
And any who watches American Politics should know that trying to keep voters on any message is like trying to herd cats.
