My name is Shiri Negari and would like to speak at Columbia too, but I was murdered when Iran gave money to Hamas to blow up the bus I was on.

There was a sign at the protest against Iranian thug Ahmadinejad:
A photo of a beautiful girl, with the caption:

My name is Shiri Negari and I would like to speak at Columbia too, but I was murdered when Iran gave money to Hamas to blow up the bus I was on. This is her story...

Shiri was a very special person. Gifted with beauty, joy, talent and goodness of the heart.

Shiri was a proud Jewish Israeli young woman. She was murdered on Tuesday, June 18th 2002 by a Palestinian suicide bomber on her way to work.

We will never forget her.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Come on, that's a ridiculous headline. I'm sure all the special persons, gifted with beauty, joy and talent who have been killed by America and Americans over the years would also love to speak at Columbia.

I agree-- that was a rather strange way of presenting it. And yes, America (as well as many countries) have killed many people-- the number of wars going on is amazing (there are several in Africa that kill people daily, that most of us aren't even aware of). However, I think you're missing the point-- Ahmadinejad is a tyrant within his own country, and a supporter of terrorism-- why should he be helped in disseminating his propaganda-- why should we support his taquiyya?

Not to mention his lies and deception.

      No. I disagree entirely.

America has not killed any Iranians (recently), but Iran has been complicit in murders of Israelis and others. If Ahmadinejad is speaking it is entirely fair to challenge him with the blood on his hands.

If you want to challenge Bush that's fine but pick another, more appropriate venue.

True. But is not just foreigners-- the murders (and tortures) inflicted on his own people have been horrendous.

A face and a name has an effect that cold meaningless numbers never will, its one of the few effective strategies that the anti-war movement has employed. Don't change the headline and don't let people hijack the subject.

Yes, thanks, and it seems a lot of people are picking up her story, made even more ironic because her family came to Israel from Iran.

The murderous act that took Shiri's life:

Shiri Negari, 21, of Jerusalem, was one of 19 people killed in a suicide bombing at the Patt junction in Egged bus no. 32A traveling from Gilo to the center of Jerusalem.

The terrorist boarded the bus at 7:50 A.M. at the stop in Beit Safafa, an Arab neighborhood opposite Gilo, and almost immediately detonated the large bomb which he carried in a bag stuffed with ball bearings. The blast destroyed the front half of the bus, packed with people on their way to work and schoolchildren. Of the 19 victims, 17 were residents of the Gilo neighborhood; 74 people were injured.

So much for Shiri's death. What about her life? Shiri's family has set up a foundation to honor her memory.
